Love Somebody Music Video

Hey everyone! Nicky here 🙂

I am a big fan of Maroon 5. I remember getting their first album on my 10th birthday and haven’t stopped listening to their music since. However, I haven’t been a tremendous fan of their music videos. That is until I watched their music video for Love Somebody:

The overall concept really sets the tone of the song and the visual effects used for the video are spot on. After doing some more research, I was able to find some information on how the video was produced. They had each person dress in white clothing and stand in front of a white background while being covered in blue paint.

Based on the making of the video, I figured that they isolated the paint using After Effects by keying out the color that there’s a hole in the footage. Then duplicate the layer and use it as an inverted track matte on the original footage, so the paint is left in the footage.

I would like to try and achieve a similar effect as an experiment. Although… getting someone willing to be covered in paint and not make a huge mess… we will have to see! 🙂

Digital Media Journal = My Sad Life

This semester I am taking a VERY VERY interesting course for my minor: Networked Communities and Environments. Specifically, this course addresses the social dynamics of the Internet, how networks evolve, the social implications, the spaces in which the networks exist and so on.

For the first assignment, I was tasked with keeping a Digital Media Journal. Basically, track the amount of times I use any digital media and what kind specifically.

What I have noticed is that I use my laptop and iPhone extensively for multiple purposes. For example, I observed that each morning, I turn on my Music on my iPhone on my morning commute as well as my commutes going home. I have also noticed that I constantly check my Instagram account on my phone, at least 12 times throughout the day. I estimated that I listen to music for roughly 7 hours each day.
As well, being in a design program, I use my laptop everyday to access the Adobe software. Moreover, I do use my laptop to access the Internet. Throughout the week, I visited Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress.com, YouTube, Google, and Gmail more than 10 times. In particular, I opened Facebook everyday and will leave the webpage open for over 5 hours. I usually spend roughly 10 hours a day solely on my laptop.
Finally, I watched the television twice to watch a half-hour show and an hour show the other time. The other television shows I watched were off my computer, around 2 hours that week.

In conclusion, I have found that I have a clear dependency on both my laptop and iPhone.

Here is the video I produced for my assignment:

Zoetrope

In my Communication: Time, Motion, Media class, the first assignment was to create a zoetrope. A zoetrope is a device that produces the illusion of motion through a rapid spinning of static pictures. It consists of a cylinder with cut, vertical slits on the sides, with a band of images in the inner surface. As device spins, the viewer looks through the slits at the pictures.

Here is my Photographic Documentation of my zoetrope:

And finally here is the Video Documentation of my Zoetrope and the animation:

And that is my zoetrope 😀
